Haddonfield Turf Field Installation on Schedule

School officials are planning an opening ceremony on Sept. 12 for the first Haddonfield Memorial High School football game.

The installation of an artificial-turf field is still scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15, Haddonfield Superintendent of Schools Richard Perry said recently.

The $1 million project was begun at the end of last month. It included new turf at the Haddonfield Memorial High School football stadium field and the adjacent practice area known as Anniversary Field.

"We're hoping to have an opening-day ceremony on Sept. 12 for the high school's first football game," Perry said. "We're hoping to have alumni from past football teams and local youths lined up as the team comes out. It will be a generational thing.

Some borough residents opposed the project, even though $600,000 of it was paid for in private donations. The borough, which owns Anniversary Field, and the school board paid the balance of the costs, about $400,000.
