Nine Apply for School Board Vacancy

The school board will appoint one of nine applicants to a seat recently vacated by Marsha Marshall.

Nine residents submitted applications to fill a vacant seat on the borough school board. The nine applicants for the vacancy are a stark contrast to a school board election in April with four open seats filled by unopposed incumbents.

The applications needed to be filed by last Thursday. The board will choose one applicant among the nine to fill the seat until school budget elections in April. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Marsha Marshall last month. Her current term expires in April.

The applicants are: Jerry Jellig, Jeffrey Groon, Jeff DeCristofaro, Maureen Eyles, Lois DeAntonio, Andrew Berlin, James McCormick, Donyale Reavis and David Adams, according to schools Superintendent Richard Perry.

"Several attorneys applied, along with a superintendent of schools, finance expert and a parent-activist," Perry said.

The board plans to interview the applicants in early September and make an appointment shortly after, Perry said.
