Two Haddonfield Wrestlers Win Regional Championship

The Haddonfield seniors are headed to the state wrestling tournament.

seniors Carson Stack and Robert Schlitt triumphed Saturday in championship matches at the Region 7 wrestling tournament, sending them on to the state tournament next weekend.

Stack won a 5-1 decision over Haddon Height's Padric Lynch in the final round of the 195-pound weight class. Teammate Schlitt won a 4-3 decision over Northern Burlington's Wayne Stinson in the 160-pound weight class.

Ahead of the district tournament, Stack explained how the memory of a loss at last year's district tournament, which comes before regions, was affecting him.

“It’s definitely in the back of my mind,” he said in reference to last year’s loss. “But at the same time, that’s the goal every year, to go out and win it. I’m going in there with a similar mindset as last year.”

Ahead of districts, Schlitt told Patch he felt like it was his year for victory.

“I’ve been wrestling a lot better recently,” Schlitt said. “Looking at the kids in my weight, I feel like there is no reason I can’t be a district champ this year.”

And now he has a shot at the state title.

The state wrestling tournament is next weekend in Atlantic City.
