Haddon Township Girls' Soccer Falls in South Jersey Final

The West Deptford boys defeated Haddonfield for the third time this season, this time in the playoffs.

There wasn’t much more the Haddon Township High School girls’ soccer team could’ve done.

After dispatching of No. 8 Woodbury, 4-2, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 playoffs, the Hawks hosted the South Jersey final against No. 6 Gateway.

The goalies matched each other every step of the way, and neither team managed a score through regulation and two overtime periods.

Even when it came to the shootout, only one goal separated the teams.

Unfortunately for Haddon Township, that goal belonged to Gateway, who captured the Group 1 title on Thursday, and will face Shore Regional in the State Group 1 semifinals on Tuesday, according to nj.com.

Haddonfield just couldn’t find a way to solve West Deptford this season.

Fourth-seeded Haddonfield fell to No. 1 West Deptford, 3-1, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 tournament this week, according to nj.com.

John Alemi scored the lone goal for the Bulldawgs after the teams battled through a scoreless first half. Goalie Jonathan Baxter made six saves.

It was the third time this year West Deptford defeated Haddonfield on the pitch. The Eagles own a pair of one-goal victories over the Bulldawgs during the regular season, 3-2 and 1-0.

Baxter made 11 saves and 13 saves in those games, respectively.

The Bulldawgs finished the season with a 14-6-2 record.

Haddonfield navigated its way through the Group 2 playoffs with a 1-0 win over Barnegat in the first round and a shootout victory over Sterling in the quarterfinals.
