South Jersey's Joe Flacco Named Super Bowl MVP

The former Audubon High School star threw three touchdowns in a 34-31 win for Baltimore over San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.

South Jersey's own Joe Flacco won the MVP award Sunday, leading his Baltimore Ravens over the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31, in Super Bowl XLVII.

Flacco, an Audubon High School grad and University of Delaware star, completed 22 of 33 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns to win the Most Valuable Player award in a game that came down to the last seconds.

. His parents actually attended the game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Flacco family has close ties to Haddon Township. Joe married his high-school sweetheart, Dana Grady, at the Church of the Holy Savior in the Westmont section of town in 2011. A reader comment on another story Sunday claims that Flacco owns a home in Haddonfield.

Real estate records turned up a home owned by a Joseph Flacco in Haddon Township. Regardless of where he currently resides, he's likely to be regarded as South Jersey's favorite son for years to come.

Speaking of sons—Flacco's will get a sibling soon. Flacco announced to his family gathered in New Orleans that wife Dana is expecting the couple's second child, USA Today reported. The Flaccos have a son, Stephen, born in June.

This year's Super Bowl featured all kinds of South Jersey flavor. Tom Gamble, a 1981 Haddonfield Memorial High School graduate, is the director of player development for the 49ers. Bryant McKinnie, who spent just two seasons at Woodbury High School, is the Ravens starting left tackle, while Alex Silvestro, who played for Paulsboro High School, is on the Ravens practice squad as a tight end.

Jim Harbaugh, the Ravens head coach, is a former assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.
