'Coins For a Cause' Kickoff Tonight at Haddonfield's Republic Bank

The drive will benefit childhood cancer awareness.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is September and Republic Bank is committed to helping children in Haddonfield and throughout South Jersey who are battling cancer.

“Republic Bank has devoted its fundraising campaign, “Coins for a Cause” in 11 of its 13 branches in Philadelphia and South Jersey to Go4theGoal Pediatric Cancer Foundation for the entire month of August as an early kickoff to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” says Robert Worley, Senior Vice President and Market Manager for Republic Bank.

Everyone is invited to bring their spare change to the Kick-off Event on tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the bank’s Haddonfield location at 30 Kings Highway East. Festivities will include food and drink, giveaways and lots of fun for all who attend. Anyone who makes a coin donation at this Kick-Off event will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card from Republic Bank.

Go4theGoal supplied neon shoelaces for Jason Garstkiewicz, a seventh-grade student who was diagnosed with bone cancer shortly before Christmas. The fundraising drive was wildly popular and helped raise spirts and awareness of the challenges of childhood cancer.

Kevin Reilly, former Philadelphia Eagle, cancer survivor, amputee and motivational speaker will be the guest of honor at tonight's event.

“I am really excited about being involved in this event, especially if I can help young people like fellow cancer survivor and amputee, 12-year-old A.J. Mattia," he said. "It’s really his great attitude that keeps me going,” said Kevin. “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.”

From August 1 to 31, Republic Bank has dedicated their Magic Money coin-counting machines to Go4theGoal Foundation, whose mission is to help children battling cancer and their families. Anyone can stop by the bank with a bucket or handful of change to drop into the machine to be counted. Patrons can then have the option to deposit all or a portion of their funds into a special Go4theGoal account. All of the funds raised will support pediatric cancer programs at three local hospitals: St. Christopher’s Hospital, Philadelphia, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
