Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Situation Crazy

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Quarterback Michael Vick is returning for another year.

It was the last game of the season, a horrible loss to the New York Giants. And Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick, returning for the first time in more than a month after injury, had once again been battered and bruised. But this time, Vick lashed out: blasting his teammates for a lack of effort and heart. We all thought that was the last Birds fans would ever see of the controversial QB. After all, Vick had spent most of the season injured. And when he was on the field, he was producing too many costly turnovers. He was due a bonus if kept on the roster. And about $15 million if he played next season. So everyone thought Vick would be cut right after the Super Bowl. Well, guess who's back? New coach Chip Kelly made a move that …

South Jersey's Joe Flacco Named Super Bowl MVP

The former Audubon High School star threw three touchdowns in a 34-31 win for Baltimore over San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.

South Jersey's own Joe Flacco won the MVP award Sunday, leading his Baltimore Ravens over the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31, in Super Bowl XLVII. Flacco, an Audubon High School grad and University of Delaware star, completed 22 of 33 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns to win the Most Valuable Player award in a game that came down to the last seconds. Flacco flew more than 40 relatives, some of whom live in Haddon Township, to New Orleans to watch the game in a local restaurant. His parents actually attended the game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Flacco family has close ties to Haddon Township. Joe married his high-school sweetheart, Dana Grady, at the Church of the Holy Savior in the Westmont section of town in 2011. A reader …

Haddonfield Finally Has Someone to Root for in the Super Bowl

Tom Gamble, an executive with the San Francisco 49ers, is a Haddonfield native.

There's very little doubt who the locals will be pulling for when Super Bowl XLVII kicks off at 6:30 p.m. tonight. Of course, the Philadelphia Eagles are nowhere near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans today. But there is an Eagles connection. Tom Gamble, the son of former Eagles President Harry Gamble, is the director of player development for the 49ers and a 1981 Haddonfield Memorial High School graduate. His parents, Harry and Joan, still live in the borough and plan to be parked on their living room couch watching the game. "Tom, of course, invited us out but I don't like all the hubbub," Harry said Saturday afternoon. "There's a lot of preliminary stuff that's not important to me, the game is. Unfortunately, we never made it …

Super Bowl XLVII By the Numbers

Crack open a cold one, settle on the couch and get your Super Bowl XLVII facts and figures before kickoff.

The grudge match of the year is on: San Francisco vs. Baltimore. And we’re not just talking the Super Bowl, but city vs. city. As you count down the hours to kickoff and debate the matchup of Ravens vs. 49ers, here are some Super Bowl stats you should know:  1. This year, a 30-second commercial costs $4 million, up from $3.5 million last year and $42,000 in 1967, according to Time. 2. Football fans are anticipated to consume an estimated 79 million pounds of Hass avocados during Super Bowl gatherings this year, according to the Hass Avocado Board. 3. If you still think the 1983 series finale of M*A*S*H was the most-watched broadcast in the U.S., think again. The 2010 Super Bowl between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts stole …

SJ's Joe Flacco Flying Family to New Orleans

Haddon Township senior Kim Flacco will be one of 60 of Joe's family and friends heading down to watch the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

The Huck Finn’s Restaurant and Sports Bar is known for having some of the best shrimp po-boys and jambalaya in New Orleans. It’s also known as a great place to catch a sporting event with friends. By Sunday night, it may be known as the new home of the Joe Flacco Fan Club. Haddon Township High School senior Kim Flacco is one of about 60 of Joe’s family members and friends hopping on a plane today and heading to New Orleans. Joe is picking up the tab to ensure he'll have the people who mean the most to him as close as possible, including his cousin Kim.  While Joe’s parents Steve and Karen Flacco will attend the game, the rest of the crew will watch from a private room at Huck Finn’s, sweating out every moment of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVII …

Her Cousin Is an NFL Star, but Kim Flacco Writes Her Own Headlines

Haddon Township field hockey player Kim Flacco was named to the All-South Jersey Second Team.

Kim Flacco knows a thing or two about athletic excellence. She was selected as a First-Team All-Colonial Conference field hockey player as a sophomore and junior, and most recently was chosen as a Second Team All-South Jersey member by the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey. “It’s really cool,” Flacco said. “It’s definitely an honor.” Residents of Haddon Township and those nearby in Audubon have come to expect nothing less from a member of the Flacco family. Athletic genes seem to flow rather naturally though the Flacco family. Kim’s older cousin, Joe Flacco, is one of the most well-known Colonial Conference graduates, making it all the way from Audubon High School to the Baltimore Ravens as a starting quarterback. Her cousin Mike has spent…
