District 28 Wrestling Tournament Heats Up

Eight wrestlers from Haddon Township and eight from Haddonfield made it through to the semifinals of the tournament.

As the a No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA District 28 Wrestling Tournament it could be easy for Haddon Township High School’s Mike McCutcheon to look ahead and wonder who may be awaiting him in the finals. However, McCutcheon is too wise for that, knowing what the repercussions of one slip up could mean. One momentary lapse of judgment in a quarterfinal matchup can leave a wrestler on his back, bringing a sudden end to his season. McCutcheon made no such mistake Friday night, advancing comfortably with a 20-4 technical fall victory over Haddon Height’s Brian Panera to advance to today’s semifinals. “It’s hard to take it one match at a time, especially having been here before, but that’s the single most important thing,” said McCutcheon. “That’s …

Haddonfield, Haddon Twp. Wrestlers Featured at District 28 Tournament

Jake Klaus, Henry Klaus, Mike McCuthceon and Tim Wolf each earned a No. 1 seed for this weekend's District 28 Tournament.

Henry Klaus and Jake Klaus piled up victory after victory even as the Haddonfield Memorial High School wrestling team struggled through a sub-.500 season. They were rewarded for their continued hard work this week when the NJSIAA released its District 28 Wrestling Tournament seeds. Each Klaus earned a No. 1 seed, as did Haddon Township’s Mike McCutcheon and Tim Wolf. The four standouts headline a large contingency of local athletes who earned seeds suggesting a top-three finish and trip to regions will be in their future. Jake Klaus (19-8) is the top seed at 132-pounds, while Henry (22-3) has the top spot at 182. McCutcheon (25-5) is the man to beat at 145, while Wolf (24-5) hopes to reach the top of the podium at 195. Other local athletes…

Wrestlers Upset in Playoffs: Haddon Township Sports Week

It was a good week for the indoor track team, but the wrestling squad experienced an early playoff elimination.

Several Haddon Township runners and throwers found success last week at the NJSIAA Indoor Track Champions last week, highlighting a busy week of action. The boys and girls basketball teams also found success, while the wrestling team experienced disappointment. WRESTLING The playoffs didn’t turn out the way the Haddon Township wrestling team had hoped. The Hawks—who entered the Group 1 tournament as a No. 3 seed—were eliminated in the first round to No. 6 Woodstown, 41-22. The Hawks got three-straight pins from Connor Kelly (120), Brian Navaro (126) and Jason Martinak (132), but managed just one win the rest match.
