Alleged ‘Anti-Government Extremist’ Charged for Illegal Guns

Gregory Gawrysiak, of Haddon Township, previously threatened to kill law enforcement officers and then amassed several illegal guns, officials say.

A Haddon Township man was arrested Thursday on a slew of gun charges, and authorities say he’s also a member of a federally recognized anti-government extremist group. Gregory Gawrysiak, 46, of the first block of Emerald Avenue in Haddon Township, was arrested Thursday morning at his home for illegally possessing several firearms. Gawrysiak was ineligible to buy new firearms after a 2010 incident in which he allegedly threatened to kill law enforcement officers, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office reported. Police confiscated a firearm from him at that time. While Gawrysiak wasn’t charged, he relinquished his firearms identification card and his eligibility to purchase new guns. Gloucester Catholic Custodian Charged with Secretly Filming Students

John Martin, 41, of Wenonah, allegedly captured students undressing with eight hidden cameras set up around the Catholic school.

Gloucester Catholic Junior-Senior High School’s head custodian allegedly installed hidden video cameras throughout the school, capturing images of students and staff undressing as well as everyday school activities. John Martin, 41, of the first block of S. Jefferson Avenue in Wenonah, turned himself in Wednesday to Gloucester City police on a third-degree invasion of privacy charge. Martin allegedly set up eight hidden cameras around the Gloucester City Catholic school, placing them in classrooms, the school’s choir room, weight room, backstage area, maintenance facilities and football area. The cameras, hidden in smoke detectors and ventilation ducts, were pinhole-sized, measuring a quarter-inch in diameter, officials said. “Students …

Teacher-Student Relationships Under Investigation

Patch learns authorities are investigating alleged teacher misconduct involving now-former Triton Regional High School students.

Three Triton Regional High School teachers are being investigated by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office for alleged misconduct involving now-former students. The three teachers were placed on administrative leave at separate times late this summer and earlier in the school year, according to sources. The now-former students reportedly graduated from Triton in June. The alleged misconduct, however, occurred while the students still attended the Runnemede school. Patch has confirmed the ongoing investigation with several sources over the past week. The sources requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation. Haddon Twp. Man Guilty in Thanksgiving Killing

Harold Elliot shot his sister's boyfriend in the chest after arguing all day over the war in Iraq.

It took a jury just seven hours to declare Haddon Township’s Harold Elliot guilty for killing a Thanksgiving guest after arguing over the Iraq war in 2008.  Elliot, 38, of Locust Street, now faces a prison sentence of five to 20 years for shooting his sister’s boyfriend, Michael Unger, 35, of Glen Burnie, MD. Unger was a Thanksgiving guest of the Elliots in 2008, and meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time. He and Elliot argued for most of the day on Nov. 28, 2008, over the war in Iraq, according to authorities. The argument started at a nearby Veterans of Foreign Wars post and continued at Elliot’s sister’s apartment. The sister lived in an apartment downstairs from her brother. Police Drop the Net on Suspected Serial Bank Robber

Aquamena Hawthorne hit four local bank robberies, including the June 26 incident in Audubon, police say.

An accused serial bank robber who police say hit four local banks—including one in Audubon—was arrested Friday. Aquamena Hawthorne, 36, of Willingboro, was arrested in Camden after authorities tracked her down with license plate reader technology. Hawthorne is suspected in four local bank robberies running from June 26 through this morning. Her alleged hits include: June 26: Beneficial Bank, Beverly-Rancocas Road, Willingboro at 9 a.m. June 26: Susquehanna Bank, White Horse Pike, Audubon at 9:45 a.m. July 10: Susquehanna Bank, Route 130, Cinnaminson at 10 a.m. July 13: Wells Fargo Bank, Kings Highway, Cherry Hill at 10 a.m. In each case, Hawthorne allegedly demanded money from the bank tellers and told them she had a gun, though she never …

Man Snuffs Cigarette on Woman’s Chest, Police Say

A Cherry Hill man’s violent fight with a woman in Cinnaminson led to a slew of charges and revealed he was already wanted in Camden County for making terroristic threats. Rashad Parker, 26, of the 200 block of Tavistock Road in Cherry Hill, put out his cigarette on a woman’s chest and bit her face several times during a brutal fight, Cinnaminson Police say. The fight took place at 4:55 p.m. on May 20 in the 600 block of South Randolph Street. Police arrested Parker, who authorities say lied repeatedly about his identity. When police discovered his true identity, they learned he was wanted by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office for terroristic threats. Fugitive Arrested in Haddon Township Bar Shooting

Orlando Collins is charged with attempted murder in the Feb. 28 shooting.

U.S. Marshals arrested a Camden man accused of shooting a fellow bar patron in Haddon Township, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Haddon Township Police Chief Mark Cavallo announced Tuesday. Orlando Collins, 36, now faces attempted murder and other charges for allegedly twice shooting a 26-year-old Camden man at Speedy’s Bar at 3200 Mt. Ephraim Ave. The shooting occurred on Feb. 28 at 10:30 p.m. The victim has since been released from the hospital.  Another man, Terrel Wiggins, 28, of Camden, also was implicated in the shooting. Authorities say he had a weapon that evening as well, but fire it. County Dispatcher Faces Child Porn Charges

A Camden County emergency dispatch operator is up against eight charges, including child pornography allegations, for an inappropriate online relationship with a teenage girl, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk announced Thursday. Officers arrested Matt Call, 44, of Mount Ephraim, on Wednesday. Authorities say he interacted with the girl—whose age the county declined to provide to protect her identity—over an approximate five-month period.  Contact between the two took place mostly online through Facebook, and Call solicited pornographic pictures from the girl, the county prosecutor said. Local Man Killed in Suspicious Camden Fire

Detectives are asking for the public's help to find out who set the fire, ruled an arson.

Update, March 3, 8:46 a.m.: The Camden County Prosecutor's Office identified the victim as Paul Johnson. His family was located and notified of his death Friday night. --------------------- A man with ties to Collingswood and Oaklyn was killed in Camden Friday and authorities are hunting for those responsible.  Camden police and the county prosecutor’s office are investigating the case as a homicide by fire and are asking for the public’s help in providing information.
