Colombi Ready to Announce Another Run for Commissioner
The mayor will make an announcement about her candidacy Saturday at the annual Haddonfield Mayor's Breakfast.
Tish Colombi, the borough mayor, is set to announce her candidacy for another four years on the Board of Commissioners. Colombi, who has been one of three borough commissioners for the past 28 years and the mayor for the past 10, said she will make an announcement about her candidacy at the annual Mayor's Breakfast Saturday morning at the First Presbyterian Church. When asked by a reporter if she intended to declare her candidacy she said: "Can't abandon the ship in the middle of the stream." Commissioners Ed Borden and Jeff Kasko on Monday were not ready to say if they were running for another four-year term. "You'll have to ask my wife," Borden said with a smile. Commissioners Scheduled to Discuss Bancroft Tonight
It's their last public meeting before the Bancroft referendum vote on Jan. 22.
The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners are scheduled to meet tonight at 5 p.m. at the Municipal Hall for a work session. The Bancroft public purchase is at the top of the agenda for the work session, which is a public meeting in which no votes on resolutions or ordinances will occur. Typically work sessions are meetings in which a quorum of officials are present to discuss matters of public policy and action. The 2013 budget and seven other items are on the agenda. Haddonfield Commissioners Scheduled to Discuss Bancroft Purchase
Here's a quick look at today's work-session agenda.
A discussion about the pending Bancroft public purchase is at the top of the agenda for the borough Board of Commissioner's work session at 4 p.m. today at the Municipal Hall. The borough and school board are backing a January bond referendum to spend up to $12.5 million to acquire and develop the 19-acre, Bancroft property on Kings Highway East next to Haddonfield Memorial High School. The Bancroft discussion may be in a non-public, executive session. The board went into executive session at its last work-session meeting to discuss Bancroft. BOE Set to Vote on Bancroft Purchase Letter
The school board meets tonight at the Central/Middle School library.
The Haddonfield Board of Education is set to vote tonight on a letter of intent to purchase the nearly 19-acre Bancroft property on Kings Highway East. Tonight's board meeting at 7 p.m. at the Central/middle school library is the third public meeting this month to discuss the purchase. The borough Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the letter of intent last week. The letter launches a 45-day process for the borough and the school board to appraise the property and draft an agreement of sale with Bancroft, a center for the developmentally disabled and acquired brain injuries. The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners are expected to vote tonight on a resolution to spend $354,000 as part of a $1 million project to install artificial turf on two fields at Haddonfield Memorial High School. The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners on Monday agreed to contribute $354,000 to a $1 million project to install artificial turf at two fields at Haddonfield Memorial High School. The money will be contingent on $500,000 in private funds raised by a community group for the project. The agreement came after a 20-minute presentation from Joe Del Duca, a local attorney leading the private fundraising effort, and a lively 30-minute debate with Del Duca, and among themselves, at a work session. Commissioners Tweak Overnight Parking Regulations
Haddonfield officials agreed to keep a ban on overnight parking in place, but will consider ways to mitigate time drain on police.
The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners this week agreed to keep a ban on overnight street parking in place after more than a month of public debate. They also agreed to change the hours of the ban to 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Previously it was 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. A deadline for requesting overnight street parking on a Camden County phone system will also be moved up to midnight instead of 2 a.m. A first reading of the ordinance change will be heard next Tuesday, May 8, at the commissioner's action meeting. A public hearing and vote will be held next month. The changes will not go into effect until the ordinance is changed. This law is idiotic. Because some don't like the aesthetics of parked cars, taxpaying citizens are banned from using the public property that they paid for and pay to maintain without a compelling reason to do so. If parked cars are ugly to look at from 0200 to 0500, why are they not ugly from 0500 to 0200? They should be even more ugly in the daylight. So we should really ban all street parking … more ›

Overnight Parking Discussion Continues, Budget Also on Agenda
The commissioners continued a debate Tuesday about scrapping or revising overnight parking regulations. The municipal budget was also scheduled for a vote.
The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners continued a discussion about whether to scrap or revise overnight parking regulations at a business meeting Tuesday at the Municipal Hall. Commissioner Tish Colombi, the mayor, last week cited a survey on Haddonfield Patch to make her case for continuing the prohibition of cars parked on the street after 2 a.m. The commissioners and the police have studied the issues surrounding overnight-parking regulations for several months. If the county system is antiquated, that is the system that must be addressed. It is ludicrous to suggest that Borough residents foot the bill for an alternative system. A web-based request system for overnight parking should already be in place. more ›
