Cream Puff Biz Tougher Than Brian Zoubek Thought

The former Duke basketball star shutters his Haddonfield bakery six months after opening.

Brian Zoubek never experienced the sweet taste of success. At least not in the latest chapter of his young life. The 24-year-old, 7-foot-1 former Duke NCAA basketball champion and Haddonfield Memorial High School standout opened a gourmet cream puff shop in late July with the fanfare of national media attention after a Haddonfield Patch article went viral. But a plain sheet of white paper taped inside the front window of his Dream Puffz Creations bakery this week at 605 N. Haddon Ave. in Haddonfield spelled out an untimely epitaph. "Unfortunately, we are now closed for the time being," the sign read. "Thank you for all your support and business..." Brian Zoubek's Quest for the Perfect Cream Puff Continues

The former Duke basketball standout from Haddonfield is getting closer opening his Dream Puffz pastry shop.

The storefront a 605 Haddon Ave. in Haddonfield, NJ, still doesn't look like much, but Brian Zoubek has high hopes. The former Duke basketball and Haddonfield Memorial High School standout is well on his way to the next chapter in his life, as a pastry entrepreneur. "There's going to be a long, custom counter right here," said Zoubek, extending his 7-foot-1 frame to make the point. "But, we've still got some work to do." The small shop, next to the Bread Board sandwich and catering shop, will join a row of stores featuring other culinary delights, such as Pretty Sweet Bakery at 427 Haddon Ave. Zoubek's shop will be Dream Puffz, Heavenly Cream Puffs.
