Moments after a stinging defeat Tuesday in a bid for a third term on the Haddonfield Board of Commissioners, Ed Borden said he would not run for elected office again. "I did this out of a desire to serve the town; the voters decided they wanted to go in a different direction. I accept that and I'm going," said Borden, 64, a practicing attorney and former Camden County prosecutor, the chief law enforcement officer in the county. Earlier on election night, his eyes were moist as he shook hands with supporters in a packed room at the Municipal Hall as election results came in. A wide-ranging debate among six candidates for three seats on the Haddonfield Board of Commissioners Wednesday drew few sharp distinctions but still helped some in the audience of more than 100 narrow their choices. "I really liked Neal Rochford," said Heather Vaughn, 45, a homemaker and former teacher with children at Tatem Elementary School. "He had very candid answers. He's not afraid to speak what he really feels. I liked his sense of humor and his honesty." An agreement with the Haddonfield school board to install artificial-turf fields was unanimously approved Tuesday by borough commissioners.
Another milestone in the saga of artificial turf fields in Haddonfield was marked Tuesday night. The borough Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a shared services agreement with the local Board of Education for the installation and maintenance of two fields, one of which is on municipal property. The agreement clears the way for the installation of turf on the high school football stadium field and an adjacent practice field, which is owned by the borough.
