'American Idol' to Feature South Jersey Teen

The Cherry Hill West student will get his shot at singing glory after making it through the New York auditions.

Thousands of singers thronged to stadiums last summer for the 12th season of American Idol—few got a shot at singing before the judges, and fewer still made it to Hollywood for a chance at the finals. Cherry Hill West student Zach Birnbaum, 16, can now be counted among those lucky few, having come through the New York auditions with a ticket to Hollywood—and the requisite excited leap into his family’s exultant arms. “Getting a, ‘Yes, you’re through,’ it’s such a thrill, such an accomplishment,” he said. “It was really, really cool. Thousands Attend First Night Haddonfield 2013

The 15th annual event brings visitors from as far as Mexico City to enjoy a family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year's Eve.

The door to the Haddonfield Information Center was propped open by people waiting in line for the best bargain in South Jersey, entry buttons to First Night Haddonfield 2013. Mayor Tish Colombi was on hand to explain to first time visitors how to display their buttons, access the shuttle between venues and enjoy the experience. Toni and Chrissy Walton of Sweet T's Bake Shop were busy putting the final decorative touches on a three-layer birthday cake for Haddonfield's tricentennial. Each layer was decorated with 3-D images of Haddonfield's history. My husband and I felt that the Michael Jackson tribute should have been rated "adult" because all of the "groping" done by the entire group. There were a lot of young children in the audience who did not have to see that. We loved, loved, loved the Frankie Valli tribute; and also the Pan Celtic group.   more ›

There’s Still Time to Get First Night 2013 Buttons

Haddonfield’s annual New Year’s celebration kicks off 6 p.m. Dec. 31

Haddonfield's First Night committee has 10 reasons to ring in 2013 at the annual, alcohol-free, town-wide New Year's Eve celebration:  Special bonus for revelers, celebrate Haddonfield’s Tricentennial   Sweet T’s Bakeshop in Kings Court is creating a three-layer cake with each layer representing 100 years of Haddonfield. The cake will be displayed at the downtown stage where all will sing happy birthday to Haddonfield at 9 p.m. Everyone who stops by Sweet T’s after the fireworks will get a piece of cake. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes beginning at 6 p.m. with stops at the Methodist Church, Central/Middle School, Kings Court Gazebo, opposite Starbucks.
