Several people were detained Friday afternoon after a police raid at the Sunrise Massage parlor. A neighbor says suspicious activity had long gone on at the business.
A Haddon Township massage parlor reportedly offered extra services to clientele, leading to a police bust and prostitution charges for one woman Friday. Haddon Township Police raided Sunrise Massage Friday afternoon after a two-month investigation into alleged prostitution activities there. At least two women were led away in handcuffs from Sunrise Massage at 121 Haddon Ave., eyewitnesses said. Police charged Xiaonyu Li, aka Lisa Li, 28, with two counts of engaging in prostitution. She was held on $10,000 bail at the Camden County Correctional Facility. There was no immediate information available on the other woman taken away in handcuffs. Daytime burglaries at two Haddon Township homes resulting in several thousand dollars of jewelry stolen, police report.
A "large amount of jewelry" was reported stolen from a home in the 200 block of Norwood Ave. in Haddon Township on Monday. Police believe someone cut a screen and climbed through an unlocked window to enter the home. Officials say a four-door, red vehicle with two men in it was seen in the area during the weekday-morning burglary. "Several-thousand-dollars" worth of jewelry was also reported stolen Monday from a home in the 1100 block of Mansion Ave., police said. The master bedroom was targeted. No forced entry was immediately reported. Police and firefighters closed the White Horse Pike on Monday morning as the Camden County Sheriff's bomb squad investigated.
A suspicious package discovered in the parking lot of the former Newtown Diner shut down the White Horse Pike between West Holly and West Park avenues in Haddon Township Monday morning, as the Camden County Sheriff's bomb squad was called in to investigate. As firefighters and police from Haddon Township and Oaklyn staged around the area, the bomb squad sent in a robot to get a look at the device, which had been placed on a stump of concrete in the center of the lot. A bomb technician walked out just after 10 a.m. to follow on what the robot had seen, then photographed and held up a printed circuit board that had been sitting on the stump. Haddon Township Police arrested a Camden man they said harassed an 11-year-old girl behind a school last week. Police arrested Nicholas Murphy, 19, at his home on the 500 block of State Street, Camden, on Thursday. Murphy is accused of approaching a girl behind Haddon Township High School’s stadium on March 22 at 3 p.m. The girl told police Murphy was riding a mountain bike on the access road and tried to talk with her. After she ignored him, Murphy allegedly began to verbally harass her with profanities and followed her on the bike. The girl ran toward the high school and reported what happened to a teacher in the parking lot. Timothy Polijczuk was charged Monday with leaving the scene of an accident that killed a 67-year-old Gloucester Township woman.
Haddon Township police arrested a 50-year-old Mount Ephraim man Monday and charged him in the fatal hit-and-run Sunday that claimed the life of a Gloucester Township woman. Timothy Polijczuk, 50, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality, causing death while driving on a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license, according to a statement from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. He was also issued numerous motor vehicle violations and was ordered held at the Camden County Jail on $192,500 bail. Two Camden County men have been arrested and charged with the burglary of a gas station in Haddon Township, police announced Friday. Christopher C. Weldon, 32, of the 800 block of Mercer Street of Gloucester City, and Ronald J. Rupert, 35, of the 400 block of W. Browning Road, Bellmawr, were already in the county jail on other offenses when they were charged with this crime. Township police say Weldon used a crowbar to force open a front door in the early morning of Feb. 16 to break into the Sunoco gas station on Route 130 in the West Collingswood Heights section. A 58-year-old Audubon woman was charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday after allegedly reversing her car, full throttle, into the doorway of a busy McDonald's restaurant on Cuthbert Boulevard, according to Capt. George Tagmire of the Haddon Township Police. Eileen Devine was also charged with careless driving after her 2001 Toyota Avalon allegedly roared into a brick wall enclosing a Dumpster before reversing at high speed into the side of the restaurant's brick wall and doorway at 7:34 p.m. Sunday. Devine was in the drive-through line at the time of the accident. She was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital in Camden after the accident, complaining of lower-leg pain.
