Haddonfield Reacts to Pope's Resignation

The pope's sudden announcement Monday caught many by surprise.

The resignation announcement Monday from Pope Benedict XVI sent shock waves around the world and especially resonated in local communities such as Haddonfield. "I was very surprised," said Kim Danielewicz, 45, a mother of two grade-schoolers at Christ the King Regional School in Haddonfield. "I was on my way to work when I heard it. My jaw dropped. This hasn't happened in 600 years." Benedict, 85, the former German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, was elected pope by Catholic cardinals in 2005. He will become the first pope to resign since the 1400s. Pope's Philly Trip to Endorse Straight Marriage

Pope Benedict XVI will travel to Philadelphia in 2015 for a World Meeting of Families summit as the Roman Catholic Church makes a clear statement about gay marriage.

In a clear statement in support of traditional "one man-one woman" marriage in the United States, the Vatican has put Philadelphia at ground zero of the debate over gay marriage. The Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which includes Roman Catholic Churches in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, has announced it will host the Vatican's 2015 World Meeting of Families. Pope Benedict XVI is likely to appear.  The selection of Philadelphia came as Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput  attended this year's World Meeting in Milan, Italy, over the weekend.
