Jo-Ann Fabrics Moving Out of Westmont Plaza

The news comes on the heels of Superfresh market also pulling out of the Haddon Township strip mall.

Jo-Ann Fabrics will close its store at the Westmont Plaza early next spring and move to a larger location at the Garden State Pavilion on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, employees there said Wednesday. Customers expressed shock and sadness when told of the move, which comes on the heels of the announced closing last month of the Superfresh market next door. "I'm concerned," said Emma Redmer, 33, of Oaklyn, as she shopped for yarn and fabric. "They're losing a big client. They're pretty popular here. I hope they can find more tenants for this place, good tenants." Redmer said she's unlikely to continue shopping at Jo-Ann's when it moves because she doesn't have a car. Superfresh in Westmont Closing

The A&P chain plans to close stores in Westmont, Marlton and Plainsboro.

Superfresh market in Haddon Township's Westmont section will close in January, a store corporate official said Wednesday. "As part of an ongoing review of our store footprint, A&P will close three underperforming Superfresh stores in Westmont, NJ, Marlton and Plainsboro, on Jan. 11, 2013," Marcy Connor, a corporate spokeswoman, said in a statement. "We notified our union partners on Nov. 9 and began notifying associates on Nov. 12. While this is a very difficult circumstance for our associates, customers, partners and the local communities, we remain focused on providing great value and service to our customers that shop in these stores."
