Exactly as I suspected Lauren. That's a responsible and entirely appropriate policy. Anyone who respects decency and fair play will have no issue with this whatsoever. Thanks to you and Bill Duhart for your efforts.

Yeah. Everything is just a huge conspiracy. Actually this has been the case with Haddonfieldtalks as well just before prior elections to prevent last minute unfounded attacks and abuse of the medium. My guess is that just about every comment will make it through, but cowardly unfounded posts with last minute accusations can and should be discouraged in this manner. That's just about fair play.

I'm guessing because it is right before the election and some people have a tendency to not behave. These most likely would be anonymous posters who have no accountability for their actions. In prior elections, unfounded accusations get made at critical points just before the election and the candidates have no realistic opportunity to defend themselves. Moderation close to an election is prudent and fair, especially of anonymous posters.

I believe that this actually was good police work and the noose was pretty well closed by the time the woman finally admitted what had happened. Job well done by the police department. In any case, prayers to the girl for a full recovery. She is quite blessed to still be with us. Let's hope that positive lessons are learned from this by pedestrians of all ages as well as drivers here.

Great news and good police work on the arrest. Let's hope that the girl makes a full and speedy recovery and that some good comes from this. Perhaps more emphasis on enforcement as well as on pedestrian safety.

Yes Herb, this is the 2nd pedestrian hit in about a month in that two block stretch. Active pedestrians in town are painfully aware of how such a high percentage of drivers are speeding through town, ignoring crosswalk laws etc. I appreciate our police crews here but I sure would like to see dramatic increases in enforcement. Perhaps some type of rotating concentrations of enforcement in cooperation with nearby towns would send a message that we are serious about slowing drivers down and making our streets safer. There must be some creative ideas of how to create an enduring change in behavior within the constraints that we have.

I think Ed and has been very clear in the past, as have the other commissioners, about their views on police force consolidation. I have never heard any of them say that they are in favor of it, in fact, most have stated clearly that they are opposed to it. I agree with them that this would not be good for Haddonfield. However, the Commissioners have been pushed by the public and naturally have been active in looking for ways to cut costs by sharing services. So we cannot jump down their throats for considering options. Bear in mind, we already share police dispatch services with a broad base of towns. Frankly, from experience, I prefer the old dispatch system, as it kept a live body at the station in case someone wanted to appear there for safety or other reasons. Plus, they dispatchers knew our town better and descriptions of areas of need were easier to communicate during calls. But I'm told the old way was cost prohibitive. Folks have made very good points about the slippery slope of losing segments of police control, however, I don't think that should prevent us from at least investigating what our alternatives and cost benefits might be from limited sharing of certain police administrative functions. Anyway, I do not see anything inappropriate taking place here on the part of our leaders and we can continue to debate these issues in a fair and reasonable manner as they unfold.

It is evident that someone created a bogus identity that abbreviated my name in a prior PATCH article and I is NOT me. I did NOT say those things, nor am I looking to help or hurt anyone's campaign in relation to this issue. My hope is that PATCH will immediately remove any such comments and retract the statements in the article above as well. This is another reason why people not using their full and real names are a real problem. Unbelievable.....
