Community Update

On Saturday evening 17 students and two chaperones from Kasukabe, Japan will meet their Haddonfield host families for the next two weeks, at a Welcoming Party at the HMHS. During the next two weeks the HJE Committee has arranged daily activities such as trips to Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Stone Harbor, and Ocean City, other activities include bowling, tubing on the Delaware, Cowtown Rodeo, a visit to Rowan University, as well as performing for the seniors at the Mabel Kay House. did I mention a Phillies game and a pool party.
During their visit they will become familiar with American families and their life styles. Next year Haddonfield students will visit Kasukabe for two weeks and live with host families during that time, last year the highlight of the visit by our students was a visit to Mount Fuji, among their daily activities. When our students travel to Japan the cost of the trip is just the airfare, that's it. Other organizations have similar exchanges, but charge between $7-$10,000 and boast a one night host family stay. When we travel even the chaperones pay the same airfare as the student. Whlie the board of education and the commissioners fully support the exchange, there is no financial assistance. The committee must raise all of the funds themselves to support the activities.
